Fats are nutrients that consist of different fatty acids.

Fats are made of various fatty acids and can be distinguished based on their chemical structure in to unsaturated and saturated fats.

Functions of fat in our body

Fats get stored in the body as a source of energy and help in building and protecting cells and ensuring proper functioning of the brain, eyes and muscles.

The body cannot produce certain fats itself which we call as essential fatty acid. Omega 3 (alpha-linolenic acid) and Omega 6 (linoleic acid) are essential fatty acids, and one can only get these from food. Omega 3 and Omega 6 are good fats, which contribute to a normal cholesterol level in the blood. Fat is very important, but to get the right type of fat in our body is even more important.
